Whilst our founding themes are Gothic, Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, this list is neither exclusive nor exhaustive. We welcome contributions from a huge spectrum of genre work. For more details please view our list of example Genres Embraced by ‘42’.
We are always on the lookout for new contributors and are currently gathering names of performers ready for when we launch ‘42 Stoke’. So if you are a writer, poet, musician, performance artist, actor or comedian and you have an interest in these genres, please get in touch. You can contact the 42 Stoke Team either by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or via their Facebook Page.
If you would like your work to be performed at ‘42’ but do not feel confident yet to do so yourself, don’t worry. We can arrange for a local writer to read it out on your behalf. We can also offer this assistance for contributors who are unable to attend the event itself. Let your voice be heard!
We are also looking for additional members to join our team, so if you would like to become involved in bringing ‘42’ to the Potteries, please contact us.
So if you live in Stoke-on-Trent, are studying in the area, or are visiting and fancy a night out with a difference, join us for an evening of dark and fantastical entertainment showcasing local talent.
Following the great success of the ‘42 Open Mic Night’ in Worcester, there has been a lot of enthusiastic support for similar events in other cities. Work is underway to establish these evenings.
North Staffordshire will see two ‘42’ events being established in the county, with ‘42 NUL’ (Newcastle-Under-Lyme) and ‘42 Stoke’ (Stoke-On-Trent).
Stoke-on-Trent has already proved that it has a fantastic amount to give in genre terms with the recent hit internet movie ‘Blood and Bone China’, and the place is bursting with creative talent and a very lively writing scene. Prince Andrew recently visited the region and commented that he had seldom been to a more go-getting area in his life, and if Royalty say something like that, well, you just can’t ignore it! A thundering heart of the industrial revolution in the British Empire, Stoke-On-Trent has played a massively important creative part in the history of these Islands, and has shown again and again the guts and creativity of its people.
Angela James, co-founder of ‘42’, was born and raised in Stoke-On-Trent, and she and Glenn decided to relocate to Staffordshire from Worcester, so that their children could grow up closer to their family. It has been a great adventure for co-founder, Glenn and the children exploring the area with Angela, and they are practically in love with Mow Cop Castle. The stunning view and landscape around Mow Cop has been an enormous inspiration to Glenn in particular, as has the old Spiritualist Church in Tunstall.
Getting to know the six towns and exploring the area has opened up new vistas and ideas, and the couple are now busy making contacts and connections with a view to starting a ‘42’ for Stoke-on-Trent. They want to bring something unusual and fresh to the area, and hope their open mic evenings will provide genre performers and writers with an opportunity to find their voice, and their audience.
